Get Involved in the "Good Deeds" Project
Sunday evening, August 17th a new focus was introduced to our Altared Lives theme for the year. The challenge for the month is to LEAD. Jesus calls us to be the "Light of the World" and the "Salt of the Earth." According to Matthew 5 our "light should shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." That is leadership. The leadership that Jesus calls us to is unique. We lead through service. We are not called to simply proclaim, teach, study, preach the good news but to actually be good news by allowing our light to shine. Jesus gave us that example as He washed the feet of the disciples in His last evening on earth. (John 13) He then commanded them (us) to "go and do likewise." In the judgment scene of Matthew 25 we are going to be judged by this leadership: Providing food for the hungry, drink for the thirsty, clothes for the needy, acceptance to the stranger, and visits to the sick and imprisoned. Notice He doesn't say a word in this scene about "right doctrine," it is all about practically meeting people where they are and showing them through our loving service and kindness how only Christ can meet those needs.
So we encourage everyone to join the challenge: Reach out to others by doing good deeds showing the "love of Jesus in a practical way." We pick the place, we pick the person, and we pick the good deed. After the deed is done, we hand them a supplied Campbell Street Church of Christ "Business Card." Everyone receives 3-5 cards and you have one month. We want your testimonies so please e-mail or call us and let us know some of your ideas and the responses you received. Here are some of examples:
